We have been to Mezza several times. Having experienced Middle Eastern food around the globe, we can say that the food is up to par with the best. What one reviewer calls “bland” can be seen by someone else as Mezza’s asset. The hummus is perfectly seasoned, unlike some that is so garlicy you taste it all night in your sleep. The texture of the hummus is a tribute to the quality of the oil and tahini used, giving it a silky quality. The pita bread, delivered hot and puffy, is tender and a real cut above the average. In general, seasoning is used to enhance the quality of the ingredients, not overwhelm them. This is truly a taste asset. As for the service, come on, let’s not try to make a neighborhood start-up restaurant into something that it isn’t. If the service is slow, it might be a bad night, but also, we should not compare it with very established restaurants until it has a chance to find its stride. One of Mezza’s charms is its low-key quality –mellow music, unlike some restaurants where you have trouble hearing your companions across the table. The owner, Vivian, is extremely gracious and very dedicated to serving a neighborhood that she loves. Having a Middle Eastern/Lebanese restaurant surrounded by five neighborhoods without one is a gift to the area, especially when the restaurant is comfortable and clean, the food high quality, and the atmosphere extremely pleasant.
